Yet another blogger gets picked up to cover the WSOP
Just sending out some premature congratulations (ok, say that 5 times fast) to Scurvy, who may get to cover the WSOP this year for a major poker site. Hope it works out, and well-deserved!

Man, I DO NOT want to see what happens next...
Reminds me of the time I was in a redneck bar with my best friend and we spent the night drinking watching a one-legged man dance with a one-armed woman. Of all the nights we spent drinking, that's the one I remember most.
Moments like that are priceless.

Online-Casinos.com tries to provide the player with value in the form of tools you can use to understand the games and strategies. Among the offerings there are:
- Free casino game training programs for blackjack, video poker and roulette, along with a blackjack strategy chart calculator that is customizable to a variety of rule variations.
- Like many casino sites, there are the training and rules sections, but this website as visualized casino game rule instructions for Texas Hold'Em poker, Omaha Poker, Seven Card Stud Poker, Blackjack, Baccarat, Craps, Roulette and more. This is a great value for those visual-learners among us.
- A poker section with reviews of 15 online poker rooms and free poker tools such as our poker odds calculator, the visual training tool for Hold ‘em, Omaha, and Stud, and a tool that teaches Passive/Agressive playing strategy.
- A daily updated gambling news section.
- Links to more than 100 free flash casino games.
- Bonus guides to a variety of online casinos.
- A download for a piece of software called “Holdem Helper”. I did not try the software, but it appeared to be one of those programs that runs on your PC and guides your decision-making.

Book Review: Bigger Deal, by Anthony Holden
I just love to read books written by talented writers. They make me want to write better.
Holden paints a real-world picture of life in today's tournament-heavy poker world. You come away with the understanding that tourneys can be crap-shoots, but talented players can still score well in cash games.
I should probably learn something from that last statement.
Holden comments on EVERYTHING to do with the poker boom, and holds little back. The meta-criticism seems to be reserved for American internet players, and he pretty much paints them (us) as the root of all that is bad about poker etiquette today.
Not sure I really agree. Non-US idiots - Mattias Anderson? Tony G.?
Root of crappy etiquette: Non-internet pros - Phil Hellmuth? Mike Matusow?
Yes, a majority of the issues are with American morons. But, moronic behavior is universal.
That aside, I truly enjoyed the book. I think anyone who thinks he's ready to drop out of college, quit his, or leave the wife and kids because poker is so easy and so glamorous ought to read this first - you may want to re-think those plans.

Casino Gambling is Rigged
Scheme netted $3.3 million (U.S.) from the American casinos:
Fifteen people have been arrested in a major casino scam that netted more than $2 million from cheating at baccarat in Ontario.
Among those arrested were several employees of Casino Rama near Orillia.
It's alleged that casino dealers were recruited to predetermine the outcome of card games, but police wouldn't reveal details of how the scam was carried out...

Are you a sports betting shark?
I know a lot of you people do a bit of sports betting. I'd link to a couple of you people who have dropped a few bucks in Vegas recently if this wasn't a sponsored post for a sports handicapping website called sharkhandicapping.com.
Services that make sports picks for bettors give the bettor the advantage of analysis by someone that follows everything there is about that sport. Oh, it can be fun to make your own picks based on the color of the teams' uniforms or who has the better fight song, but if you're serious about your sports betting it helps to have some thoughtful analysis on which to base your decisions. I typically think about sports betting around football time, unless I see that some golf matchups that look like Mickelson will get his butt kicked. But, frankly, I suck when it comes to making football picks.
However, if you want to lay some bets during the non-football season, Shark Handicapping also provides clients with sports picks for every major sport. They have NCAA football and basketball, MLB, and NBA picks. In fact, today's Free Pick is the Cleveland-Detroit game.
Check it out!

Mookie, plus HCwDB
Just a reminder, I'm giving a copy of Anthony Holden's Bigger Game to the bubble-boy/girl tonight in tonight's Mookie. It'll be pretty embarrassing if it winds up to be me.
Also, I need to point y'all over to the funniest site I've seen in a while: Hot Chicks with Douche Bags
Here's just a sample of the couples he's pilloried:

Go. Now.
Hat tip to Derrich for pointing the way.

I may be a whore...
... but I'm not a CHEAP whore! **
WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

**What's the over/under on how hits I get this week from "cheap whore" searchers? Phil Mickelson won the TPC Sunday, and I got slammed by the "illegitimate child" searchers again. No people, I don't know anything about it, all I did was post that it was a weird search term that hit my blog one time.

A prize for tomorrow's Mookie Bubble-Boy
I've received a couple copies of Anthony Holden's "Bigger Game", the sequel to his poker classic "Big Game", and for which I'll be doing a book review (Here's a preview: It's good). The extra copies were to give away as a promotion, so I'd like to offer the first copy to whomever is the bubble-boy/girl in tomorrow's Mookie.

Been a while...

About 5 weeks since I last won anything, hell, even cashed in anything with more than 9 players. Just a $1 45SNG, but I don't care, it was good practice.

I am Bucklox??
I saw a bunch of traffic from punterslounge.com yesterday. I checked it out and found someone in their forums had linked up to my blog in the mistaken belief I AM BUCKLOX!
(That's what happens when you rank #1 on Google for the search term "Bucklox". Think I can work "Bucklox" into this post a few more times?)
Funny. But, yeah, I suck that bad, too. Then, someone read a bit further through my archives and posted that I am a "real" player.
Nope, I play with fake money, folks.
And, yes guys, I think it's a put-on. Seems pretty obvious.
Thanks for coming by, though! Hope you stick around. :-)
Now, I can just see a repeat of the "I am Poker Champ" meme...

Cardschat Poker Forums
This is a sponsored post.
When I last posted about Cardschat Poker Forums in November, I mentioned that there were over 14,000 members and 155,000 posts. Six months later, there are over 20,000 members and 238,000 posts!
I'm writing this post at 5 a.m. on a Tuesday morning and I see there are 5 members online... but there are 106 guests, a 21-1 ratio, so think about the reach for your poker blog if you're posting regularly at Cardschat. I just posted in a thread asking "What's the deal with Pokerstars?", where the original poster complained about the monster hands juicing the games. My response: Leave the play-money tables.
Anyway, I really like the way the forums are organized. There is a sub-forum in "Poker General" for "Brags & Bad Beats" - yeah, it doesn't get rid of bad beat stories entirely, but it's good to see it's active so at least those threads that start out with "AA Sucks" are out of the "Poker Strategies" forum. A spin through "Poker Strategies" right now reveals quality threads like 7 card stud hi - loosening up your game, Submitted for your approval (A Joose LAG session), How I Look for Ring Games, and Playing against very passive opponents preflop. Solid threads and discussions for players that take the game seriously.
Another solid forum is "Hand Analysis", where you can get feedback on some of those tough hands and decisions that you want to understand better. A few of the active threads there include $10 SNG: Squeeze, call or Fold?, trips 50max tough decision, and 100NL QQ vs preflop reraise. Good stuff that you can sink your teeth into, and in games played at limits at which most of us are familiar.
So, if you want to get some meat to chew on as you think about your game, check out Cardschat Poker Forums.

Need non-poker internet scam advice
My father-in-law was doing geneology research this evening and was scanning a webpage (he didn't remember the URL). When he got to the bottom of the page, there was a message that told him his exact name and demanded $20 to tell him how they got his name and were putting the message on that page.
I received an e-mail earlier this week that was similar - we've infected your machine with a virus and we'll tell you how to remove it for $20. Obviously, i wasn't worried about that.
I'm sure his personal data hasn't been compromised because it sounds like they were trying to get him to give up a credit card number - if they already had the CC number, why demand payment, right? Anyway, I was hoping someone could explain to me how they were able to target him so specifically, by name? I want to be able to explain it to him so he'll stop worrying.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Will I be able to play poker for more than $2 a bet in Florida soon?
From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:
Technorati Tags: Florida, Gambling
But the bill (HB 1551) is just one of a host of gambling measures that appears likely to be approved by the traditionally gambling-shy Legislature this spring.Update: Decker has more info about this.
Just four hours after the council vote Monday, the House also approved a series of gaming measures, including bills that would raise wagering limits in poker rooms and loosen regulations at the four Broward County facilities allowed to operate Las Vegas-style slot machines.
Critics called the combined package a testament to the influence in Tallahassee of the gambling industry, which annually showers hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions on state candidates and committees.
Records show that horse and dog tracks, jai-alai frontons, Indian tribes and other gaming interests funneled more than $2.5 million to Florida's ruling Republican Party during the 2006 election cycle and more than $1.2 million to the Florida Democratic Party.
