XBox = Trip to Disney

by BSN

The XBox Elite I won for finishing 16th in Pokerstars' 2007 World Blogger Championship of Online Poker arrived at noon today.

Ok, I just like saying the whole title. I have so little to be proud of in my life.

So, it was here at noon, and Mrs. Big had it sold on eBay by 8 p.m. for $475. Roughly going rate, from what we've seen, maybe a small discount to retail. I'll take it.

So, now we go to Disney World!

Yes, we're taking the kids to Disney for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party for the first time since I was laid off over two years ago. Lean times, indeed, and I feel good about being able to give them a special memory this Christmas.

Hey, head over to the poker videos and check 'em out - I'm doing the best I can!

Flop Turn River

by BSN

The folks at Flop Turn River asked me to let you know a bit more about their website. Flop Turn river is a poker community with over 6,000 members that have posted nearly 600,000 posts in the Poker Forum. The site is laid out well, and you can find a great deal of information right on the front page - major announcements about tournaments, the latest forum posts, poker room ratings, and poker bonus listings. If you are new to poker, these community sites are a great way to learn Texas Holdem Strategy, and build a network of online friends to help you learn the game.

The Full Tilt Bonus is available on one of the most thorough reviews of a poker room I've ever read. Anything you want to know about what playing poker is like on Full Tilt will be covered here.

If you haven't had the opportunity to play for real money, or your experience is limited to only the major poker rooms, you will be interested in their list of No Deposit Bonus poker sites and casinos. These bonuses are available to new players, and you are given just enough money to start playing. Great for someone that wants to try a new site without waiting to make their deposits, or keeping their risk to zilch while trying out the new site.

Finally, there is a strong section on Poker Tells. While the online game is pretty much immune to physical tells, there are behavioral tells and getting in the right frame of mind to watch for them is critical. Additionally, many of us play live and it's impossible to pick up on every little tell of every person at the table without a considerable amount of experience and time spent playing that person. I have people I played with for 10 years and was still spotting tells the last time I played them. So, it's critical to know what to look for and have your mind right for observation.

Flop Turn River is a long-established poker community and strategy site, started back in 2003. It's impossible to do it justice in a single blog post, so please head over there and check for yourselves.

More gambling options coming for Florida

by BSN

It is being reported that the Seminoles have reached an agreement with the state of Florida to add more Vegas-style gaming to their casinos in Tampa and Broward.

The reports say the agreement would allow blackjack and baccarat as well as Las Vegas-style slots, but no craps or roulette.

Slowly but surely, we're getting there. Time to get back to brushing up on my card-counting skills.

Secrets of Winning Poker, Part 1

by BSN

Enjoyed another profitable week at the SNGs. I didn't play as much, but when I played I focused hard on making good decisions and playing well. I have a tendency to play too loose when I'm playing a lot, and lose sight of my mantra when I'm winning:

If you don't like the cards you have, fold them. They'll give you two new ones in a few seconds.

Keeping up with Big Slick Nuts

by BSN

I played a bit more towards the end of last week and over the weekend. I played in my first Riverchasers event, and I guess I assumed wrongly that everyone would be bloggers and others of our ilk, and cool with some of our idiosyncracies. One guy gave me shit for an awesome hammer play, and it kind of tilted me. What can I say, I am an emotional midget.

Anyway, I played like shit afterwards, trying to get situations that might allow me to go after him but they never presented themselves and later I was busted defending my big blind to what I thought was a steal attempt by the small blind. Ooops.

The SNGs continue to go well. I only broke even during the week, then hit well over the weekend again. My god, the fish pond is certainly stocked well on the weekends.

I'm continuing to post some great videos over at my poker video blog. I'm trying to balance between funny poker videos and news and strategy, so if you don't like the offering on a particular day, check back the following day for something completely different. I ran a series of videos last week of Potripper tournament play, and I'm dribbling out a decent series I found of SNG Strategy videos. Today is a funny video where Roland de Wolfe gets to make a dig at Phil Hellmuth, and it's nice and short at only 20 seconds. Of course, my favorites are strip poker videos, and I have a few in the archives and more coming up. Check 'em out, let me know what you think.
